MEDIAGON Technology

Limescale treatment and water softening: what’s the difference?
A salt-based water softener reduces water hardness through ion exchange. MEDIAGON is a physical alternative for tackling limescale without removing calcium and magnesium.
The two solutions use different technologies and modes of action: a softener reduces hardness, while MEDIAGON aims to limit limescale build-up without softening the water.
How MEDIAGON works
MEDIAGON is fitted around the pipe: water continues to flow through the existing pipe, without passing through an additional device in the circuit.
Its operating principle uses specific alloys and static fields, with the aim of encouraging minerals to crystallise within the water rather than form deposits that adhere to surfaces.
Calcium and magnesium remain present. MEDIAGON targets limescale build-up rather than reducing water hardness.
What this approach changes
Minerals retained: calcium and magnesium remain in the water; MEDIAGON is not intended to reduce hardness.
Autonomous operation: no salt, no regeneration cycle and no electrical connection for the device.
What to know before choosing
Minerals remain in the water and may leave marks as it evaporates, especially on shower screens and taps.
The aim is to make deposits less adherent and easier to clean, helping to limit the use of descaling products. MEDIAGON treatment itself adds no chemicals to the water.
Routine cleaning of surfaces and the maintenance specified for your equipment must still be carried out.
The TÜV Südwest comparative test
MEDIAGON underwent a comparative test focused on limescale prevention, conducted over fourteen months in Holzhausen, Germany.
- Two homes compared: one was equipped with MEDIAGON; the other was not.
- Fourteen months of monitoring: three interim inspections were carried out during the assessment.
- Practical observations: at the end of the test, deposits on the heating elements in the equipped installation were soft and crumbly. No visible limescale deposits were reported inside its water heater.
These observations relate to the conditions of the test presented.
